Homestay
This option gives you the opportunity to stay with a local family in their home. The families are specially selected and regularly inspected.
Staying with a host family, you get:
- your own bedroom.
- the experience of Scottish family life and culture.
- to live in an English speaking environment, where you can practice your English outside the classroom.
- (in some cases, breakfast and dinner may be provided, at extra cost)
The price of homestay accommodation is:
£80 per week (without meals)
£100 per week (with breakfast and dinner).
Guest House / B&B
There are many Guest Houses and Bed & Breakfast (B&B) accommodation in Dumfries. Normally, you receive a room and breakfast.
Different Guest Houses and B&Bs have different prices. You will receive a discount if you book through the school.
Prices of this type of accommodation vary from £100 to £200 per week.
(There is no minimum period of booking).
Private Rented Accommodation
It is possible to find your own flat or house in Dumfries. Usually students live in Homestay and Guest House accommodation before looking for private accommodation. This is a good option for students who come for more than 6 months, as it is usual to have to sign a contract for a minimum of 6 months. In most cases, you are expected to pay your own electricity and gas. You may also have to pay a deposit (usually one month’s rent).

Prices of private rented accommodation can vary from £300 to £600 per month.
