Galloway School of English is located in Dumfries, the principal town in the South of Scotland.
Dumfries is a medium-sized town with approx 40,000 inhabitants. It has consistently been voted BEST PLACE TO LIVE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM and was home to Scotland’s world-famous poet, Robert Burns.
The region has a wealth of interesting tourist sites with castles, monuments and picturesque towns such as: Castle Douglas (food town), Kirkcudbright (artist’s town) and Wigtown (book town). The region also benefits from a cheaper cost of living, meaning you get more value for your money than in the larger cities such as Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Dumfries has excellent bus and train connections with the three international airports; Glasgow Prestwick, Glasgow International and Edinburgh International.
Dumfries is also only an hour and a half from the cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh as well as cities in the North of England, such as Newcastle and Carlisle.
Also, you are only ten minutes from the sea and some tranquil beaches.
Dumfries has everything you would want from a city, with a professional football team, rugby team, an ice-hockey team as well as four golf courses. As well as the many sports facilites, Dumfries has a wide variety of shops and a good nightlife with lots of bars, clubs and restaurants to suit all tastes.
However, you are only a few minutes from the countryside with its forests, lakes, rivers and castles.
