Visas and Permits
If you are an EU citizen, then you do not require a visa to enter the United Kingdom.
If you are NOT an EU citizen then you may require a visa to enter the United Kingdom. It is the student’s responsibility to arrange a visa for the United Kingdom.
Please look at www.ukvisas.gov.uk to find more information about this.
When you arrive in the UK you must register with the nationality department within 7 days of your arrival. You can do this at Dumfries Police Headquarters.
They will provide you with a registration document. To receive the registration document, you will require:
- Your passport
- 2 passport sized photographs
- A registration fee (currently £34)
Galloway School of English will help you with this when you arrive.
Do I need to register with the Nationality Department?
If you are 16 years old or over and come from one of the following countries (see the list below), you must register with the police. However, depending on circumstances, some people from these countries do not have to register. If your passport is stamped with “Register with the Police”, you will need to do so.
